Biographical Information

Rick Miller, aka "the mad cow guy," first became interested in photography as a journalism major. The photography eventually displaced the writing entirely, and Miller honed his aptitude for both ambient and studio lighting and mastered the characteristics of black & white negative and color transparency films.

Drawing on his farm roots, Miller shifted from general commercial work to agricultural shooting in the early 90's. Based in the southern Wisconsin heartland, Miller has quick access to a plethora of cash-grain, vegetable and livestock operations, as well as tobacco, cranberries and other specialty crops. He also travels to other parts of the country as needed.

Miller's first-hand farm experiences and communication skills enable him to converse easily with both farmers and executives alike. His ability to be at ease with all types of folks has enabled Miller to become particularly adept at people, lifestyle and environmental portraiture.

Miller has experience with virtually all film formats, from 35mm to 8x10, and with his lighting skills and a little electricity, "the mad cow guy" is often called upon to produce studio-quality images on location. Some of his best selling swine "studio" photos, for example, were shot in a farmer's 50-year-old car garage!
